Legal Technology Resource Center moves popular publication to RSS
The ABA’s Legal Technology Resource Center (LTRC), a one-stop (mostly free) source of knowledge and help for lawyers on technology issues of all kinds, has expanded the ways in which ABA members can receive Site-tation, an e-newsletter that highlights useful Web sites, gadgets and technology news of interest to lawyers. Once accessible only through e-mail, Site-tation is now available as a real-time RSS feed. And just what is an RSS feed?
“RSS,” which stands for either Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, provides news on demand to your computer. Instead of making you actively keep up with the news you’re interested in, RSS “pushes” the information out to you. It’s a relatively new technology, but will become more and more prevalent as providers and users both learn more about it. To take advantage of RSS, you’ll first want to read LTRC’s FYI on RSS. New Site-tation content will continue to be available via a monthly e-mail subscription.
LTRC provides a wealth of other information and insight for lawyers on the whole range of technology issues they face. Their Web site has “Info Centers” on everything from Web development, mobile computing, online research and court technology to information specially chosen for solo and small firm lawyers and law-related non-profits and bar associations. Recent FYI’s (overview papers) talk about such topics as the importance of backup, how to dispose of an old computer ethically, available software options for tracking CLE credits, and “technology terms defined,” which links to online sources you can reach for when the newest buzzword comes across your desk — or out of your tech guru’s mouth. The staff posts presentations they make on technology issues, and hosts an e-mail discussion list, Lawtech, for all things related to legal technology. They are also happy to take calls (312-988-5465) or answer e-mail if you have technology questions you can’t find an answer to.
