| To: Reporters,
editors and producers: Promoting the rule of law is an essential part of a coherent global strategy to solve today’s most pressing problems. In an era of globalization, the absence of rule of law affects us all by spawning terrorism, human rights abuse, corruption, poverty, and pandemics, and by obstructing international business and development. This symposium is the second in a series that began in Washington, DC last November and will continue in Bangkok, Thailand next February and at the United Nations in April. It brings together leaders from government, business, non-governmental organizations and academia to pursue a focused agenda to advance the rule of law globally. Convened by the American Bar Association, the Symposium seeks to broaden existing efforts to advance the rule of law and emphasize to members of the legal profession their role in doing so. Accredited news media are welcome to cover the meeting. The deadline for advance registration is Wednesday, September 13 at 5 p.m. CDT. After this date, reporters with proper credentials must wait until the Symposium opens to register onsite. Contact: Warren J. Hazelton, (312) 988-6141, hazeltow@staff.abanet.org |
