Alice E. Richmond

Alice E. Richmond of Boston is treasurer of the American Bar Association. She began her three-year term as treasurer in August 2008, upon adjournment of the ABA Annual Meeting in New York.
Richmond is principal of her Boston-based law firm, Richmond & Associates. Her practice concentrates on strategic consulting and legal services in the areas of insurance coverage, complex civil litigation, intellectual property and employment law. Prior to establishing her firm in 2002, Richmond was founding partner of Richmond, Pauly & Ault LLP, Boston.
An active member of the ABA for more than 25 years, Richmond served as a member of the Board of Governors and the House of Delegates. She is a member of the Standing Committee on Audit and the Task Force on General Agreement on Trade in Services. Richmond is a former member of the Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, Latin American Law Initiative, advisory board to the Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative, and Fund for Justice and Education.
Richmond is active in a number of other legal and civic organizations. She is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and vice president of American Bar Insurance. Richmond is director of the Massachusetts chapter of The Nature Conservancy. She was a member of the Board of Bar Examiners for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 25 years and a past chair of the National Conference of Bar Examiners Board of Trustees. Additionally, Richmond has served as secretary and a member of the Board of Directors for the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund; past treasurer and trustee of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education; vice president and board member of the Handel & Haydn Society; secretary of Boston 2000; and member of the Children's Law Project board. For the past 17 years, Richmond has also been the on-air legal analyst for WBZ-TV, a CBS-affiliate station in Boston.
Most notably, Richmond served as the first woman president of the Massachusetts Bar Association in 1986-87 and was subsequently elected as the first woman president of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.
Richmond has received numerous awards for her various endeavors and regularly appears on national who’s who lists.
