FRANCHISING EXPERTS CONVENE FOR ABA FORUM ON FRANCHISING
ANNUAL MEETING IN BOSTON

CHICAGO, Sept. 15, 2006 – How can franchisors “push the sales envelope” without getting themselves into legal trouble? Are franchises affected by natural disasters? If so, how can a franchisor prepare their business for a disaster?

These and other questions will be addressed by expert panelists at “The Fine Art of Franchise Law,” the 29th annual American Bar Association Forum on Franchising, Oct. 11 – 13 in Boston. Programs and workshops will tackle tough subjects such as avoiding false advertising claims, what franchisors’, and franchisee’s lawyers can do to develop and maintain a healthy franchise relationship, and how to franchise in countries with different law practices.

Two plenary sessions will be held, one on franchise negotiation, led by Harvard professor Guhan Subramanian, who will offer insights into the crucial role of negotiation in every franchise lawyer’s practice and the benefits of certain key negotiating techniques. The other plenary session will feature a comprehensive review of the key judicial and legislative developments affecting franchising and distribution.

Other key sessions include:

  • The Psychology of the Franchise Relationship
  • Transforming and Modifying the Mature Franchise System
  • Negotiating and Documenting Complex International Franchise Agreements
  • Legal Issues Arising from Dealer and Distributor Relationships
