REAL PROPERTY, PROBATE AND TRUST LAWYERS TO EXPLORE HOT ISSUES
AT 17TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIA IN SAN DIEGO

Emory University School of Law Professor Jeffrey Pennell returns as keynote speaker

CHICAGO, April 27, 2006 -- Lawyers from across the country will convene in San Diego May 3 - 5 to discuss cutting-edge real property, probate and trust topics, including the reorganization of traditional farms into ethanol processing plants, guidance about real property issues in the face of natural disasters, and how best to handle aging clients and their questions about medical care, residence, finances and final disposition of their remains.

These are among the many topics to be discussed at the 17th Annual Spring Symposia, sponsored by the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego.

The section’s two divisions – Probate and Trust, and Real Property – will hold discussions, roundtables and question-and-answer sessions addressing key issues facing lawyers today, involved in one of the largest areas of legal practice in the United States.

Jeffrey Pennell, law professor at Emory University Law School, returns May 4 to deliver a keynote titled “Hot Topics in Estate Planning,” which will cover a range of issues including discount valuation issues, fixing defective deduction trusts, and retention of investment trustee power provisions.

Also on May 4, Raymond E. Owens, a researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, will deliver the keynote speech at another symposia luncheon.

Other highlights of the symposia include:

  • The Explosion of Condominium Conversions – Issues to be Addressed and Lessons to be Learned
