SEVEN ONLINE CLE COURSES RELEASED BY ABA SECTION OF LITIGATION

Programs are part of expanded offerings developed by LexisNexis for the section

CHICAGO, Feb. 4, 2005 - The ABA Section of Litigation and LexisNexis® U.S. have announced that seven continuing education courses are now available online for section members. The programs were taped at ABA annual meetings under an agreement between the section and LexisNexis, which is a sponsor of the section. Cognistar®, a provider of continuing online legal education programming, developed the courses on behalf of LexisNexis.

The seven programs are from presentations at meetings in August 2003 and 2004 and include:

  • "Advanced Techniques for Direct and Cross Examination"
  • "A Non-Techie’s Primer on Understanding and Obtaining Electronic Evidence"
  • "Class Action Reform: How Will It Change Your Practice"
  • "U.S. Attorneys General Forum: Reflections on Serving Presidents and Justice"
  • "In-House and Outside Counsel: Changing Relationships"
  • "Cameras in the Courtroom: Protections, Policies and Practices since O.J. Simpson"
  • "Practical and Ethical Considerations in Witness Preparation"

The courses are available to ABA Section of Litigation members at a discounted price through the Section of Litigation’s Web site, www.abanet.org/litigation. Non-members, including other ABA members, may purchase the courses directly from the section’s site, through the  LexisNexis Professional Development Center® or directly from  Cognistar.

In early 2003, the Section of Litigation contracted with LexisNexis to offer the best of its live CLE in an online format. LexisNexis, the section’s sponsor since 1997 and a leading provider of legal, news and business information, retained Cognistar to develop the online courses.

Dennis Drasco, Roseland, N.J., chair of the section, expressed enthusiasm saying that the programming is a great benefit for members who are unable to attend the section's meetings. "This means that those who cannot attend our premier programs in person will not miss out. This project has assured that our members can get the best of the section and have programming at their fingertips, when they need it."

"For the ABA project we wanted to be sure we would be delivering the highest quality in online CLE," said Tom Hagy, vice president, LexisNexis Mealey’s Publications.  LexisNexis®, provides comprehensive and authoritative legal, news and business information and tailored applications.
