Op-Ed: Safeguarding Our Heroes
Police officers live by the words “to protect and serve,” and it’s evident in everything that they do. From safeguarding our streets and homes to responding to emergency situations, these devoted men and women work to make our communities a safer place to live.
But public safety officers themselves sometimes need protection.
This week, as we observe National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and Police Week, we offer our gratitude and respect to the men and women who shield our communities, and hold memorial services to remember officers who have sacrificed their lives. More »

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 2008 -- Reports of a pipe bomb explosion at the San Diego federal courthouse early Sunday are a disturbing reminder that we must urgently work to tighten security at all courthouses.
