Power of the Press

The editorial staff of The Harvard Record won yet another first prize in the entire-newspaper category of the Law Student Division's 1998 law school newspaper contest. This marks the fourth such victory in a row for America's oldest law school newspaper. In a close competition, The Cornell Law Tower took second place and New York University School of Law's The Commentator placed third.

Also continuing to dominate the entire-magazine category were Duquesne University School of Law's Juris, which placed first, and American Jurist, published by American University's Washington School of Law, which took second place. This reflected a repeat performance for both schools. Finishing third in the entire-magazine category was the University of Washington School of Law's Docket.

Two other law schools had especially strong showings: the University of California-Los Angeles School of Law and the University of Maryland School of Law. The former won first place in the humorous-article category and placed third among the feature articles. The University of Maryland School of Law performed the reverse feat by placing first in the feature-article category and third in the humorous- article competition. Rounding out these two categories were the University of Pennsylvania Law School's The Penn Law Forum, which won second prize for a feature article, and Suffolk University Law School's Dicta, which came in second among the humorous-article entries.

In the fifth and final category of the competition—editorial writing—George Mason University School of Law's The Docket received first prize. New York University School of Law's The Commentator placed second and the University of Washington School of Law placed third.
