Students Win ABA Writing Awards

Dorothy Puzio of the University of Connecticut School of Law received first-place honors in the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section's 2003 Law Student Writing Competition. Puzio won $1,500 and an all-expenses-paid trip to a section meeting for her essay, "Health Insurance Coverage for Emerging Medical Technologies: A New Approach."

Second place and $500 went to Elena Tsaneva of Brooklyn Law School for her essay, "Cybermedicine and the Changing Face of Health Care: Evolving Legal Issues." Angela Worthy of the University of Baltimore School of Law took third place for writing "Uncovering Mold: An Insurance Dilemma."

The section is seeking entries for its 2004 writing competition. Papers should address a current topic in a legal area covered by one of the section's substantive law committees. Essays submitted must never have been published in any medium other than a law school publication, and must have been written after Sept. 1, 2002.

The first-place winner will receive $1,500 cash, airfare, and hotel accommodations to attend an upcoming section meeting. The second-place winner will receive $500 cash. A third-place winner also will be honored.
