LIAISON NOTEBOOK

International Law Will Be Examined at Upcoming ABA Conference

by Carrie Newton Lyons

Liaison Notebook includes reports of Law Student Division members who represent the Division in the ABA's practice-related sections, divisions, forums, and other entities. Student liaisons promote student membership in their entities and convey the views of law students throughout the ABA. For further information on how you can become a student liaison, visit www.abanet.org/lsd/elections and scroll down to "Liaisons."

The ABA Section of International Law and Practice conducted its annual fall meeting Oct. 15-17 in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting focused on the law of the European Union and included programs on the development of the EU, the EU legislative process, and the European market. Lawyers from throughout the world attended the conference, increasing their knowledge of EU law and making contacts with European lawyers.

The section will conduct its annual spring meeting April 14-17 in New York City. Many of the conference programs will deal with international security issues, including programs focusing on legal issues in Iraq and North Korea. In the meantime, the section is developing new ways to reach out to law students and new lawyers in order to emphasize the importance of international law.

For law students or young lawyers who are interested in international law, the section has published the second edition of Careers in International Law, which can be ordered online at the section's web site (www.abanet.org/intlaw). The book outlines various avenues into practicing international law and the many areas where international law is utilized. Written by lawyers who practice international law, the book includes an index of Internet resources for those pursuing employment in international law.

Section membership for students is just $15. For more information, visit www.abanet.org/intlaw.
