Resources on Litigation, ADR, and Construction Law
February 2000 Vol. 28, No. 7

The American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation (312-988-5662, www.abanet.org/litigation), the largest of the ABA’s entities, has more than 30 committees studying various aspects of litigation. Students are welcome to get involved in the committees, as well as attend the section’s continuing legal education (CLE) and other programs. Annual membership, $5 for law students, includes a subscription to the section’s award-winning Litigation magazine, Litigation News, and Litigation Docket newsletter. The section also has an online publication, Tips from the Trenches, available free at the section’s web site.

The Section of Dispute Resolution (202-662-1680, www.abanet.org/dispute) is eager to have students join in its ambitious plans for growing the 3-year-old section, according to chair James Alfini. In the works are plans to create programs to educate lawyers in other ABA sections about ADR processes and to encourage more ADR courses in ABA-accredited law schools. The section’s annual meeting will take place April 6-8 in San Francisco, and student rates are available for the more than 100 educational sessions planned. Student membership in the section is $10, which includes a subscription to the quarterly Dispute Resolution Magazine and Just Resolution newsletter.

The Forum on the Construction Industry (312-988-5660, www. abanet.org/forums/construction/home.html) plans its annual meeting May 4-5 in Washington, D.C. The theme for the meeting is "The Lawyer’s Toolbox," with dozens of educational and networking sessions planned. Student rates will be available. For more information, call 800-238-2667 x5579 and ask for Elisa Fleischer, meetings manager. Student membership in the forum is $5, which includes a subscription to The Construction Lawyer quarterly journal and the forum’s newsletter.
