No Student Lawyers Allowed
BY DI MARI RICKER
When the Environmental Law Clinic at Tulane University in New Orleans successfully prevented the construction of a plastics plant in a low-income neighborhood in 1997, the state's business interests struck back by persuading the state Supreme Court to severely limit Louisiana's law student practice rule. Now clinic educators at law schools around the rest of the nation are watching to see if other states may follow suit and curtail law students' ability to get valuable real-world clinical experience.
