Law Student Division Running Smoothly
W hile the Law Student Division Board of Governors Public Interest, Diversity, Membership, and Programs committees (see Division Dialogue, November 1999) are responsible for the Divisions external program- mingorganizing events like Work-A-Day, Diversity Day, and student competitionsother committees ensure the smooth internal operations of the board and the Division. The Elections Committee, chaired by 8th Circuit governor Jason Kohlmeyer, promulgates rules for all Division elections and supervises Board-level elections. "The elections committee is committed to ensuring elections at the national and circuit level are fair, impartial, and properly refereed," says Kohlmeyer, a third-year student at Hamline University School of Law. The Resolutions Committee reviews every resolution for proper format and consistency with ABA and Division policy prior to submission to the Law Student Assembly. It is chaired by Division delegate Arthur Cutler, a third-year student at Michigan State University Detroit College of Law. Overseeing the production of all Division publications, including Student Lawyer, is one of the many tasks for the Divisions Operations and Publications Committee. Chaired by the Divisions secretary-treasurer Heather Dawson, "Ops and Pubs" also spearheads efforts to maintain a vibrant Division web site and is coordinating an online presentation of law student newspapers from across the country. The committee also reviews upcoming resolutions, reporting to the Board and the Assembly on any costs the Division may incur in implementing new policies. "We pretty much have our hands in every pot," says Dawson, a third-year student at South Texas College of Law.
