ABA Center Offers Resources on Ethics and Professional Responsibility

by Teddi Maranzano

The ABA Center for Professional Responsibility’s work extends beyond scholarly research to include sponsorship of timely educational programs such as “The Ethics of Law Firm Marketing” and “Ethics: Who Is the Client?” These and similar programs are available online to ABA members.

Another significant part of the center’s work is the CPR-Section Officers Conference Joint Committee on Ethics and Professionalism. Consisting of leadership from the center’s substantive committees, chairs of ABA section committees on ethics and professionalism, and others, the committee is a forum for the exchange of information and addresses substantive issues related to professionalism and ethics.

The $20 annual law student membership provides access to ETHICSearch, an ABA service staffed by lawyers experienced in legal ethics research. If you have an ethical dilemma to resolve as a law student or lawyer, the staff can provide citations to ABA rules and opinions and other related resources. The “Center Members Only” web page gives access to a variety of online resources including an ethics opinion library, ABA Journal ethics columns, and The Professional Lawyer magazine. In addition to these resources, students receive quarterly issues of the membership newsletter, CenterPiece, and a copy of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, which is especially useful for students taking courses in professional responsibility or preparing for the MPRE.

Please visit the Center for Professional Responsibility at www.abanet.org/cpr to learn more about what the center offers.

Teddi Maranzano ( tmaranzano@abanet.org), a student at Pace University School of Law, is the ABA Law Student Division’s liaison to the Center for Professional Responsibility.
