D.V. Commission Names Essay Winners
Haley Schwartz, a student at Emory University School of Law, earned
first place in the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence’s law
student writing competition. Schwartz’s paper, “The
Plight of Domestic Violence Victims Under the Procedure, Politics,
and Policies of the Bankruptcy Code,” will be published in
the Women Lawyers Journal of the National Association of Women Lawyers.
Second place went to Renee Jackson of the University of Connecticut
School of Law for her paper, “Violent Women: The Law’s
Inadequate Response to Lesbian Domestic Violence.” Nicole
Hart of the University at Buffalo Law School took third place for
her paper, “What Will the Marriage Initiative Mean for Victims
of Domestic Violence? The Past, Present, and Future of Welfare Reform.”
Law students were asked to submit original writings on an aspect
of domestic violence and the law from a national or international
perspective.
