Tax Season is Around the Corner – Make Your VITA Plans Now
The ABA Law Student Division, in cooperation with the ABA Tax Section, supports the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to assist low income taxpayers and provide tax counseling for the elderly. The ABA Law Student Division's VITA program is an independent operation from the IRS. Prior to and during the 2007 tax season, the IRS provides forms, technical assistance, and training for law students, alumni, professors and other volunteers at all levels of tax preparation experience, including those volunteers with no experience. The ABA Section of Science and Technology Law will host a free Lunch and Learn Program for law students on Thursday, October 25th from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm at Northwestern University Law School (Rubloff 150). Panelists will illustrate the various career paths within the field of science and technology law and provide an overview of how the ABA and Section can help law students achieve their career and networking goals. The ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law will host a panel discussion and reception for law students on Friday, October 26 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the ABA Headquarters, 321 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL. During the event, panelists will share information about their own exciting careers in real property, trust and estate law and answer student questions. Health Law Section Sponsors 6th Annual Writing Competition
The ABA Health Law Section is sponsoring its sixth annual writing contest. The first-place award includes publication in The Health Lawyer journal, a $500 honorarium, and airfare, hotel for two nights, and two days' expenses to attend the section's Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law Conference in February 2008 at the Omni San Diego Hotel, San Diego, California. The ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firms Division offers a Law Student Mentoring Certificate Program designed to expand upon traditional law school education by focusing on introducing law students to the practical aspects of being a lawyer through real world activities and through the mentor’s insight and guidance.
