ABA Law Student Division
Lt. Governor for Legislative and Governmental Affairs
Overview
The Law Student Division operates on a fiscal calendar year beginning September 1 and ending August 31 of each year. Circuit Governors are elected during the Spring Circuit Meeting in February and officially take office at the conclusion of the March Law Student Division Board of Governors Meeting. The first duty of the Circuit Governor upon taking office is to solicit and appoint Lt. Governors to assist in the operations of the Circuit. Lt. Governor terms generally run from May through March of each year. Assignments vary somewhat from year to year depending upon the needs and circumstances facing the circuit and/or Division at a given time.
Role
Working in close liaison with the Circuit Governor, the Lt. Governor for Legislative and Governmental Affairs plays a key role to ensure that the ABA's national advocacy efforts and initiatives are communicated to circuit members and that law school leaders within the circuit remain active in providing support for those initiatives.
Responsibilities
The Lt. Governor of Legislative and Governmental Affairs is responsible for:
- Working with the Circuit Governor to achieve the Division's legislative agenda.
- Coordinating local lobbying efforts including the ABA grassroots efforts within the Circuit.
Project Timeline
The Lt. Governor of Legislative and Governmental Affairs is responsible for coordinating the Division's legislative agenda within the Circuit by assisting in the coordination of local lobbying efforts under the supervision of the Circuit Governor and Division Delegates to the ABA House of Delegates. Specific time-lines will be assigned by the Circuit Governor and Division Delegates based on the needs and agenda of the Circuit and Division.
