A Message from the Governors
Calling all law students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th Circuits!!!! We hope you will be able to join the American Bar Association Law Student Division in Charleston, SC on October 3-4, 2008 for the Fall Leadership Summit. Every fall, law student leaders from the 61 ABA-approved law schools represented in the 4th, 5th, and 6th Circuits get together to share ideas, network with top professionals, brainstorm on the solutions to the leading concerns of students, and work together to enhance our legal education.
This year's Conference will include presentations on new initiatives within the ABA, “How-To’s” for student leaders to implement the various programs and utilize the grant-funds available through the ABA, debates on the leading concerns within the legal education system, and extensive roundtable discussions allowing student leaders to learn from each other, and solve the problems common to every law student.

The Fall Leadership Summit is designed to bring law school leaders together to exchange ideas and develop camaraderie. You should make plans today to attend this summit if you are:

Advance Registration
Complete the registration form for electronic submission to the Conference Planning Committee no later than September 30, 2008. You will receive an electronic confirmation that your registration has been transmitted. This will be the only confirmation of your registration that you will receive. If you are unable to register by September 30, you may register on site at the meeting. If you decided to register when you get to the meeting, please print out the registration form and be sure to have it completed before you arrive in order to expedite the check-in process.
On-Site Registration
Registration for the meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Atrium of the Chase Building. Meeting attendees should stop at the registration table to sign-in, pickup their badge and a final scheduled of events before proceeding to the meeting room.

The ABA Law Student Division is a dynamic entity and changes are always underway. Your host governors will discuss current trends and innovations in the following areas:

Working Luncheon
Discussion and presentation on the Law Student Division's Veterans Initiative, which is also the theme for this year's Work-A-Day Program.
1:00pm - 3:15pm
Roundtable and Idea-Raiser
SBA Presidents and ABA Representatives will use this time as a forum for discussion of best practices, hot topics and pitfalls to avoid. Law students at every level are encouraged to participate in an effort to address issues and ideas to student leaders concerning programs and activities that will enhance their legal education inside and outside the classroom. Student leaders will guide a discussion on the best methods to implement or develop various ABA programs, such as the Veterans Initiative, Diversity Day, and convincing your school to provide counseling to depressed students by utilizing the Mental Health Toolkit. Find out what worked at other law schools, what back-fired, and why.

Discuss solutions to the most common problems facing law students, law schools and legal education, such as bar passage rates, tuition, loan repayment and any issues raised from the floor by attendees..

Discussion of how law school leaders can effectively use the discussions and information they gathered during the summit to set a vision and agenda for the coming year and for law school leaders who will follow.
