Entry Deadline
National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) entry forms and fees must be received no later than November 7, 2008.

By submitting this form, you affirm that the Faculty Advisor and Dean listed below have authorized your school's entry into this competition.

Team Information
Participation is limited to ABA Law Student Division members. Competitors' names and their ABA member identification number must be submitted with the team's brief.

Regional Competitions
Regional competitions will be held on the following dates:

  1. February 26-28, 2009
  2. March 5-7, 2009
  3. March 12-14, 2009

The NAAC Subcommittee has not yet finalized the location of all regional competitions. Once all courthouses have been confirmed, competing schools will be given the opportunity to rank their location preference. We will try to accommodate every school's first or second choice. Regional assignments will be published in mid-December.

We would like to enter a third team into the competition if space is available. We agree to pay the incremental fee of $450 upon acceptance of our school's third team

Payment by Check Information
The Law Student Division must receive your check on or before the entry deadline in order to validate this entry form. Checks made payable to the American Bar Association should be mailed to:

NOTE: Effective July 1, 2008, the ABA-Chicago office zip code will change to 60654.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The NAAC problem will be released the week of November 9 to all paid teams. Unpaid schools will not be sent the problem until payment has been received.

Service Charges
The Law Student Division will charge a $50 service charge for each incident identified below:

  • Returned or cancelled checks
  • Declined credit cards
  • Payments received after the stated payment deadline

Cancellation/Refund Policy
All cancellation requests must be made in writing to the Law Student Division's Chicago office at naac@staff.abanet.org. A $50 administrative fee will be deducted from all refunds. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after November 7, 2008.

Competition Problem and Brief Due Dates
Payment must be received before the ABA Law Student Division will distribute the NAAC Problem. We will make every effort to release the NAAC Problem the week of November 9, 2008 so that students have plenty of time to meet the new brief due dates. Effective with the 2008-09 competition, electronic briefs must arrive at naacbrief@staff.abanet.org by midnight CST Monday, January 5, 2009. Twelve bound briefs must arrive at the ABA Chicago Office by 4:00 pm CST, Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

Informational DVD
To help you prepare for winning this year’s competition, the ABA Law Student Division offers two versions of the 2006-2007 NAAC Championship Round DVD. One version captures last year’s National Championship Round in its entirety -- including the judges' critique. The second version contains the 2006-2007 National Championship Round and the 2006-2007 Competition Problem and Bench Memorandum. Your computer must have a DVD drive in order to view and print the competition problems.
