A Message From Your 6th Circuit Governor

Welcome to the 6th Circuit of the Law Student Division!  I congratulate you on your initiative in entering the legal field and the success you have achieved thus far in your academic career.  Despite the area of law you choose to practice after graduation, one common theme aligns you and your colleagues in this profession- you will always be regarded as a leader in the communities in which you serve.  That being said, I encourage you to take advantage of the many resources available to you, such as the ABA/LSD to develop these leadership skills.

Challenge yourself to be proactive in the events hosted by the ABA, Student Bar Associations, and your law school.  Explore areas that will enhance your legal education by milestones.  The many opportunities offered through the LSD are invaluable for gaining relevant experience and networking prospects.  This will not only add to your resume, but build your tool bag of knowledge.  The Student Hurricane Network, the Student Lawyer magazine, Mental Health Initiative, Diversity Day and Work-A-Day are all uniquely designed to promote student initiatives and avenues for your well rounded portfolio.

Examine your strengths and limitations.  The areas which most highlight your strengths can be a benefit to others.  You can take it one step further by teaching and inspiring another with your talents.  Where you notice opportunities for improvement, grab those with as much enthusiasm to become proficient.  No one says you have to be an expert, but if you run at the thought of public speaking- join a Toastmasters group!

Your active participation is key to the overall success of the 6th Circuit and your own professional growth.  You are encouraged to submit your leadership application to serve as a Lt. Governor within the 6th Circuit by May 2, 2008.  Additionally, the ABA Annual Meeting in New York is quickly approaching; please find registration information on the website and the discounts available for early registration.

It is with great pleasure that I serve as your governor and anticipate many great successes in the coming year for all the circuits in the Law Student Division.  Recommendations, suggestions and ideas are always welcome.  One who contributes will foster engaging results and can reap intrinsic rewards.  Please, contact me with any questions, even to simply introduce yourself.

Warmest regards,

Cavita Sharma
