Message From Your 5th Circuit Governor
Greeting Members of the 5th Circuit,
My name is Louis D. Brown III, and I am excited to introduce myself to all of you as your new 5th Circuit Governor ABA Law Student Division. I am a currently a second year JD/MBA student at Stetson University College of Law, and I look forward to what we can accomplish this year as a circuit.
As you know, the ABA is the largest voluntary professional organization in the world and the Law Student Division is an important part of the ABA. The Law Student Division consist of over 51,000 student members, and I am proud to represent the more than 4,500 students that make the 5th Circuit, the largest circuit in the division. Some of the benefits provided by the ABA/LSD include networking prospects, chances to gain a deeper understanding in areas of law, chances to gain practical experience, and leadership opportunities. Also as ABA members, students receive discounts from PMBR, Bar/Bri, Hertz, as well as discounts on insurance.
As a Circuit, we have a lot planned for the upcoming year, beginning with the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City this summer. Your attendance and participation at the meeting is important, as many items and resolutions that affect law students all over the nation are debated and put to a vote. This year students are strongly encouraged to register for the New York Annual Meeting early, as the registration fee will increase from $50 to $75 on May 30, 2008. Preliminary information and registration forms are available on the ABA's website, and the Division’s schedule will be released in late April or early May.
I encourage each of you to visit the 5th circuit homepage for helpful information on the circuit as well as details on the law student division itself. Through the circuit website, we are currently accepting nominations for the Law Student Division National Awards, which include awards for the best Diversity and Public Interest programs, Student Bar Association, and Membership.
Now, and throughout the year, should you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am here to serve you and maximize your ABA membership and overall law school experience. I look forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Louis D Brown III
