"Living a Life in the Law"

Plenary Session ~ Download Session Materials 

May 15 through 17, the ABA Law Practice Management Section will convene its “Living a Life in the Law” program and Spring Meeting at the Hotel Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The "Living a Life in the Law" theme will explore the value of successful life management as an integral matter of successful practice management, as well as the business case for law firms to integrate balance into their culture.

The program will kick off with a plenary session examining the importance of work/life balance from a variety of perspectives, including the large firm, the small firm and an individual attorney who has successfully sought out that balance. The panel discussion is scheduled for Thursday, May 15 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

Discussion Groups

Attendees will have the opportunity to continue the exploration of a balanced life in facilitated small-group discussions and “mini” coaching sessions on Friday and Saturday.

The discussion groups will focus on specific topics of interest to participants, allowing for idea sharing and the development of real world solutions to life-living challenges. Discussion groups are scheduled for Friday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Discussion topics include:

  • Time Management
  • Stress Management
  • Health & Wellness
  • Managing Up, Down & Around
  • Developing a Balanced Firm Culture
  • The Economics of a Balanced Firm Culture
  • Balancing a Career in its Early Stages
  • Balancing a Career in its Later Stages

Sign-up sheets for discussion groups will be available onsite at LPM Central (the meeting registration table) in the Canyon Room.

 

Coaching Sessions

The 30-minute, “mini” coaching sessions will allow attendees to experience the benefits of working with a seasoned coaching professional. Coaches specializing in specific aspects of balancing one’s life will be available for private, one-on-one discussions about specific issues. Coaching sessions are scheduled for Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Sign-up sheets for coaching sessions will be available onsite at LPM Central (the meeting registration table) in the Canyon Room.

The meeting and programs are open to all interested legal professionals, including non-ABA members. Registered attendees are also invited to the Section’s Thursday night reception at the Museum of Fine Arts and any other meeting activities of interest to them.
