One of the questions that I often hear when people see my multiple monitor set up is how do I move a window from one monitor to the other. The simple answer is that I simply drag the window to the other monitor, just as I would drag it to any other part of my screen.
With UltraMon, however, this process becomes even simpler. In addition to the “minimize, maximize, and close your window” buttons at the top of each window, UltraMon adds a button that allows you to send the window to your other monitor. With one click, the window is on your second monitor. This makes moving windows between monitors very easy.
UltraMon also adds a second button that allows you to maximize the window over all of your monitors at once, creating one large desktop. Although I rarely use the maximize button, I use the switch monitor button constantly.
UltraMon also allows you to manage the desktops on your monitors separately. Thus, you can have a different wallpaper on each monitor. This works great in a situation where you have two children and want to have a picture of each as your wallpaper. With UltraMon you can also have different screen savers running on each of your monitors.
UltraMon also allows you to create a smart taskbar on your second monitor. When using multiple monitors without UltraMon, Windows only gives you the single taskbar on your primary monitor. This means that all of your applications, even those currently running on other monitors appear on the taskbar in your primary monitor.
With the use of its smart taskbar, however, you have a taskbar on each monitor. These taskbars show only the applications currently running on that monitor. If you move an application to a different monitor, its taskbar button moves to the corresponding taskbar.
This utility also allows you to mirror your monitors. This is useful, for example, to show documents to a client or other person who is sitting opposite of you. Further, you don’t have to let your monitor multiple mania stop at just two monitors. UltraMon’s forums have posts with users who are running computers with 16 monitors, all managed by this same product.
I like simple utilities that concentrate on one task and try to perform that task well. UltraMon certainly fits that description. I know of no other program that I own that does its task so well without including a bunch of worthless features that are never used.
UltraMon is a available for download for a 30 day trial period. A single user license costs $39.95. I purchased UltraMon soon after I added a second monitor. I find it absolutely invaluable and would not run a multiple monitor setup without it.
