Here is a recap of this year's 60 Tips session - one
tip from each of our presenters:
From Brett Burney - Number Portability: Everyone
is all a flutter about the ability to switch your phone
number to different carriers and different phones. But
the question I hear more often is how can a person move
all their saved contacts and phone numbers from their
old phone into their new one. Nobody wants to sit there
and type them all in again. SnapSync software from FutureDial
Inc. (http://www.futuredial.com)
and the DataPilot suite from Susteen Inc. (http://www.susteen.com)
let you effortlessly sync your phone contacts with Microsoft
Outlook (DataPilot also supports ACT! and Palm Desktop).
Simply plug your phone into your computer and download
all your names and numbers with a click of the mouse.
From Dan Pinnington - Microsoft Word is a Payne:
Most of the legal profession cut their word processing
teeth with WordPerfect. Donna Payne and the Payne Consulting
Group Inc. has published some awesome books for learning
MS Word. There are separate editions for the various
versions of Word, including Word 97, 2000, 2002 and
2003 (coming soon).
From Natalie Thornwell - Remember SHIFT+TAB:
Everyone knows that you can in most software applications
you can press TAB to move from field to field. What
many people don't realize is that you can go back to
the previous field by using SHIFT + TAB. Remember this
shortcut next time you want to jump back to a previous
field. This shortcut will get you there far faster than
you can with your mouse.
From Tom O'Connor - E-mail and Technology Authorized
Use Policies: E-mail exposes you to embarrassment,
unwanted media exposure, and litigation. It is prudent
for all firms to take a reasoned approach to Internet
and e-mail use. All firms should clearly set out in
a written document what is appropriate technology use.
This lets all firm lawyers and staff know what the do's
and don't are. For a technology use policy precedent
