In this day and age of the highly mobile worker, is making partner important? What does it mean to you?

“I can’t imagine making partner. There are so many hoops to jump through, and I’ve seen so many colleagues go on to other things. It seems so few associates make it to partnership these days.”

“It’s important to me. I’m an entrepreneur. I want to control my own destiny, and being a partner will make that easier.”

“Making partner is important to me because it brings job stability. As an associate, it seems like you can be let go for no good reason.”

“I worry about the demands of partnership and having to bear the bad times at a firm as well as the good.”

“It’s a sign of success. I want to be perceived as being tops in my field and I can’t imagine having that success without the partnership title that goes with it.”
