Deer in the Headlights Decision Making

Most transactional lawyers don’t know the first thing about litigating. I learned just how true this is when I teamed up with a litigation colleague to do a pro-bono immigration case. At the hearing, I was 100 percent certain about the process—that is, until the judge opened his mouth. I froze like a deer in headlights. Fortunately my colleague jumped in immediately. It was then that I realized I do not belong in court. Lesson Learned: If it’s your first time in court, bring someone who has experience with you.
