International Human Rights Award

ANNOUNCING 2009 International Human Rights Award Recipient

The recipient of the Section of Litigation’s 2009 International Human Rights Award is Edwin Rekosh.  The Award will be presented during the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago at The Fairmont on Friday, July 31, 2009.

The International Human Rights Award recognizes those who have made extraordinary contributions to the cause of human rights, the rule of law, and the promotion of access to justice.  This award is presented annually during the ABA Annual Meeting.  Award recipients must be nominated and meet certain Selection Criteria.

This year’s award recognizes Edwin Rekosh, founder and Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Institute (PILI), an international NGO that advances human rights around the world by stimulating public interest legal advocacy and developing the institutions necessary to sustain it.  Since 1991, Mr. Rekosh has been working to advance human rights principles and promote the development of public interest law throughout Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the former Soviet Republics, and more recently, in China.

We invite you to learn more about Edwin Rekosh and past award recipients. For more information, contact Sharyne Tu at 312/988-6069.
