Message from the Chairs
The dog days of summer are upon us, with record temperatures in some parts of the country in early June. These are the days when Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee members may be tempted to take a break from Committee activities, and enjoy a "summer vacation" from working on CLE programs, articles and networking with ABA Section of Litigation Committee colleagues. However, if you do pull out your vacation togs and leave the ICLC behind for a week or two, you could be missing out on some important opportunities!
First, the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association is coming up in New York City from August 7 through August 10, 2008. At the ABA Annual Meeting, our Committee will be presenting a substantive breakfast program entitled, ”Contractual Risk Transfer — Your Risk or Mine?”, which will take place from 7:00 AM to 8:15 AM on Friday, August 8, in the Section of Litigation's principal venue, the luxurious Jumeirah Essex House that overlooks Central Park. If you are attending the ABA Annual Meeting in New York, please stop by the breakfast presentation to say hello to other Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee members and show your support for our program there.
In the May/June issue of Coverage my Committee Co-Chair, John James pointed out that, although the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee's annual CLE seminar in Tucson, Arizona takes place only three days in early March, the process of preparing for such an event is a seamless annual process. Indeed, deadlines for your proposals for the 2009 Tucson event Friday, June 13, 2008. Many interesting proposals are now being developed and submitted by both subcommittees and active individuals in our Committee. It will soon be time to propose speakers and topics for our popular Roundtable luncheons at the seminar, which allow everyone to mix learning with lighter conversation with other attendees over lunch. Watch for opportunities to be involved.
Finally, as always, we look to our ICLC members to provide us with the thoughtful, scholarly and timely articles that make Coverage the indispensable resource that it is to our Committee. Please consider submitting an article over the summer months for an upcoming issue of Coverage. With all of the exciting improvements to its publication and delivery, such as electronic as well as paper distribution, and the plan for increased visibility of Coverage pieces through Lexis Nexis, now is a great time to be published in the Committee's journal quality newsletter, Coverage.
Best wishes to all Committee members for a successful, productive, and fun-filled summer!
Laura Foggan
Co-Chair, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee
