JULY/AUGUST 2009

ABA Annual Meeting
July 30–August 2
The Fairmont | Chicago, IL

We are happy to announce that three ICLC-sponsored Breakfast Briefings and Networking meetings have been selected, and will feature active members of the ICLC as panelists:

  • The Small Insurance Claim in an Uncertain Economic Climate
    Friday, July 31, 7:00–8:15 a.m.

In this economic climate, companies cannot afford to leave any insurance proceeds on a table, but they must make cost-benefit analyses of how to proceed when hey are attempting to collect what might be considered relatively small insurance claims (under $1.5 million). This panel presentation will describe alternative, quicker, and less expensive dispute resolution procedures that can assist a company in obtaining its insurance coverage.

Panelists: Tim Burns, Perkins Coie (policyholder side); Latham Williams, General Counsel, Hudson Highland Group, Jackie Urban, Aon Corporation, and Scott Hecht, Stinson Morrison & Hecker (insurer side).

  • Insurance Implications of the Peanut Recalls
    Friday, July 31, 7:00–8:15 a.m.

The massive nationwide recall of peanut-products underscores the vital role that insurance plays in safeguarding public health and the stability of the U.S. food industry. This panel will provide corporate counsel, risk managers, and coverage attorneys with additional knowledge regarding specialized food recall coverage, and provides practical information and ways to protect against food contamination and product recall insurance claims and disputes.

Panelists: Jim Davis, Reed Smith (policyholder side), Brad Murlick, Navigant Consulting, and Michael Marick, Meckler Bulger Tilson Marick & Pearson, LLP (insurer side)

  • Ethics Jeopardy
    Saturday, August 1, 8:30–10:00 a.m.

Join us for this audience-participation, game show format in which the panel will use case law-based ethics (tripartite relationship conflicts, independent counsel, etc.) and model disciplinary rules as well as state-based ethics guidelines to focus on ethical issues facing our practice today.

Panelists: Christopher W. Martin, Martin Disiere, et al., Angela Elbert, Neal Gerber, and Jose A. Isasi of Greenberg Traurig
