Message from the Chairs
Welcome to the 2007–2008 American Bar Association year! This year, we welcome a new co-chairperson to the Health Law Litigation Committee. Grant Killoran, who has been the Committee’s Newsletter Editor for many years, has been appointed to the position of Co-Chairperson. Grant is a partner with the firm of Michael, Best & Friedrich in Milwaukee, WI.
Subcommittees
The Health Law Litigation Committee has a number of substantive subcommittees that are designed to address issues specific to areas in which our members practice. We are actively recruiting and searching for new members to our subcommittees and our plan is to increase membership and continue to improve Committee member benefits.
Our current substantive subcommittees include: Antitrust and Consumer Protection, Fraud and Abuse, Licensing and Peer Review, Managed Care, Medical Ethics, Medical Malpractice, Qui Tam/False Claims Act, and Nursing Home. If you are interested in joining one of the subcommittees, please let us know. To view a list of our roster of subcommittee chairpersons, click here [PDF].
Programs and Meetings
The Section of Litigation Annual Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC from April 16th through 18th, 2008. We hope to see many of you there.
In 2008, the ABA Annual Meeting will be in New York City from August 7th through 10th.
Communications
We try to communicate with our Committee members in a number of ways. You have reached us at our website. We will strive to provide information on this website about the Committee, coming meetings and CLE opportunities, and other pertinent information. It is a great place to learn about our subcommittees and, more importantly, who the subcommittee chairpersons are in the event that you wish to more actively participate. We are also in the process of adding links to other websites that we believe will be valuable to you in your practice, as well as increasing our content of substantive articles available on the website. We also plan to include information about important cases and outcomes involving our members.
The Committee publishes a Newsletter four times a year. It is our goal that the information contained in these newsletters be timely and helpful to your law practice. We always need Committee members who are willing to provide information, write an article, research a matter, or identify a possible contributor. If you have such an interest, please contact our Newsletter Editor, Erin Dickinson. This is a great way for you and your colleagues to get published.
Finally, the Committee provides E-Alerts through our listserve throughout the year. While they are not published on a regular basis, you cannot receive them if you are not a member of the Committee.
Emerging Issues
This year, the Section is emphasizing the expertise of our members and focusing on emerging issues that are important to our law practice. Our subcommittees are already organized into substantive areas of heath law, and we are always looking to get more of our members involved in the Committee’s work. We urge you to review our list of subcommittees and to let us know if you are interested in becoming more actively involved in your area of practice.
Thank you for visiting our website. We hope that you visit often and take the opportunity to join the Committee.
