Welcome to the homepage of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee. Our Committee is concerned with the application of principles of both ethics and professionalism in the litigation context.
One of our tasks is to increase trial lawyers’ awareness of legal ethics, focusing on applicable provisions of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and other applicable ethical rules. An equally important goal of the Committee is to foster professionalism in litigation for the benefit of our clients, the judicial system, and our profession.
To this end, the Committee sponsors programs and projects that relate not only to ethical dilemmas faced by litigators, but also to civility in the courtroom, deal with ethical dilemmas faced by litigators, and that generally relate to professionalism on the part of the litigator.
Wanted: Ethics Counsel
The Committee on Ethics & Professionalism wants to reach out to ethics advisors in law firms and other organizations in order to provide a forum for those lawyers who have special responsibilities for dealing with ethics issues in their practice. To this end, we are attempting to compile a directory of ethics advisors in law firms and other organizations. To participate, please download an information form [Word] and send it to Website Editor John C. Martin.
