Regulatory Scheme: Oklahoma Rule of Professional Conduct prohibits lawyers from indicating that they are specialists unless certified by the state supreme court. To date, the state supreme court has not implemented a plan to either certify attorneys directly or approve certifying organizations. Rule 7.4(4) allows lawyers certified under another state's licensing authority to communicate the fact with a disclaimer that such certification is not recognized by the Supreme Court of Oklahoma. Proposed new rules contain no changes to Rule 7.4.
