Regulatory Scheme: Rule of Professional Conduct 7.4 allows communication "that the lawyer is certified as a specialist in a field of practice when the certification and communication are authorized under Admission and Discipline Rule 30." The state rules of professional conduct delegate to the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education the responsibility for authorizing rules governing attorney certification. A lawyer certified through a program approved by the Commission for Continuing Legal Education may communicate "the fact that [he or she] is certified . as a specialist in the area of law involved." The Commission has approved programs sponsored by the American Board of Certification, the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the National Elder Law Foundation.
