Pro Bono Committee (also known as A Business Commitment (ABC))

Description:

The Committee coordinates the Section's pro bono programs and has the responsibility of selecting the winner of the National Public Service Awards, which are given annually by the Section.

Volunteers and Cases:

The Committee has 56 members. A portion of this program involves matching requests for service by a non-profit corporation or legal service provider with a local BLS attorney volunteer. Entities seeking service or volunteers should contact Guy Lescault. The principal activities of the Pro Bono Committee are to encourage the development of local business law pro bono programs. The Committee has developed the ABC Manual available at the Center for Pro Bono site which teaches how to develop the local business law pro bono programs. The Committee also operates a web site to support these activities.

Pro Bono Service Subcommittee of the Business Bankruptcy Committee

Description:

The principal purpose of the Subcommittee is to foster and support local bankruptcy pro bono programs. The Subcommittee is the principal sponsor of a book on how to start a bankruptcy law pro bono program (How to Begin a Pro Bono Program in the Bankruptcy Court; a Starter Kit for Lawyers and Judges) (available at the Center for Pro Bono website.) The Subcommittee is also the sponsor of an annual program on bankruptcy pro bono called "Pro Bono Across the Country" at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. It also sponsors a list serve (contact Andy Goodman at andyg@greenbass.com) and a website. See www.probono.net/bankruptcy.

Volunteers and Cases:

The Committee does not seek to involve lawyers in direct projects.
