Formal Voluntary Pro Bono Program Characterized by a Referral System with a Coordinator

Description of Program

The Pro Bono Program is administered by the Assistant Dean for Students with the assistance of a student Pro Bono Program Coordinator. Placements are with 501(c)(3) organizations and with private attorneys working on pro bono matters. Students volunteering 30 or more hours receive a certificate of recognition and their accomplishment is noted in the graduation program.

The Law School regularly funds one or two students if PILA funds are not adequate to fund qualifying students.

Graduate Student Funded:

An alumnus funds one award for a student working at the ACLU.

The Law Alumni Association funds one award.

Other Funding Sources:

PILA raises funds for students working in the public interest over the summer.
