Description: The Paralegal Technology curriculum at Carteret Community College prepares individuals to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive work. Coursework includes substantive and procedural knowledge in the areas of civil litigation, legal research and writing, real estate, family law, wills, estates, trusts and commercial law. Graduates are trained to assist attorneys in probate work, investigations, public records search, drafting and filing legal documents, research and office management. Employment opportunities are available in private law firms, governmental agenices, banks, insurance agencies and other business organizations.

Description: The Paralegal Program at Central Piedmont Community College is an ABA-approved program with the primary goal of providing its students with the legal knowledge and practical skills necessary to become competent, ethical paralegals. This program prepares individuals to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing a variety of legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. Course work includes, but is not limited to, substantive and procedural legal knowledge in the areas of civil litigation, legal research and writing, real estate, family law, wills, estates, trusts, contract (commerical) law, personal injury law, corporate law, criminal law, and legal ethics and professionalism. For students working towards an AAS degree, courses also include subjects such as English, Mathematics, humanities and social science. All students are required to take introduction to computers, basic keyboarding, word processing, text editing and public speaking courses.

Description: The Paralegal program is a professional certificate program for women and men who have previously earned a bachelor's degree in any major. Established in 1979, the program is approved by the ABA. The program can be completed in an evening program that lasts for two semesters or in one intensive semester. The program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the roles and functions of paralegals in law firms and occupational settings. Students will gain an understanding of legal ethics and codes of professional conduct applicable to attorneys and paralegals and will develop the skills necessary to perform competently and ethically in their chosen area of specialization. In addition, students will acquire a foundation of knowledge and skills in legal research, writing, and analytical thinking that can serve as the basis for broadening their knowledge and expanding their professional capabilities, in the legal field or in other fields.
