Dear Colleagues:
The Federal Labor Standards Legislation Committee Midwinter Meeting will be presented February 18-20, 2009 at the Westin Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. We look forward to a successful program and are pleased to offer the following details.
Meeting & Social Events
The meeting will begin with a Welcome Reception/Buffet Dinner on Wednesday, February 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Westin Resort. The general sessions will be on Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A reception and dinner party will be held at the resort on Thursday, February 19, preceded by a reception for first-time attendees. An optional dinner at one of Los Cabos’ best restaurants will be offered on Friday, February 20.
A breakfast for registered spouses, partners, children and guests has been scheduled for Thursday, February 19 from 9:00 to 10:30 am. A representative from a local tour company will be available to answer questions and to offer suggestions for off-site activities. Please indicate on the registration form if your guest(s) would like to attend the breakfast.
Hotel Accommodations and Reservations
The Westin Resort & Spa greets awestruck guests with free-form pools built into white sand beaches. Every room has a private balcony and a breathtaking ocean view, high speed Internet and the Westin Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath.
Complimentary full day activities are available at the Westin Kid's Club for children from 4 to 12 years old. The Westin Kid's Club is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Private baby sitting service by certified bilingual baby sitters also is available. For more information on the resort’s children's program, contact Lezly Ponce.
We have negotiated a very favorable group rate of $329 for Deluxe Ocean View rooms, plus applicable taxes. In addition, a 4% resort fee will apply, which includes maid gratuity, health club access, in-room coffee and two bottles of water daily. A bellman/porterage fee of $6 USD (roundtrip, per person) will be charged to your room upon checkout. The group rate will be honored three days prior and three days after the meeting, based on availability. The reservation deadline for the group rate is January 19, 2009. After this date (or once the group block has been filled), the group rate will be subject to availability. Reservations may be made by completing the Reservation Form and faxing it to the resort (011 52 624 142 9050) or online at www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/LEL. Reservations also may be made by calling the hotel directly at 011 52 624 142 9000, ext. 7010 or 800-WESTIN1. If necessary, cancellations must be made by January 19, 2009 to avoid a one-night cancellation charge.
Meeting Registration
The registration fee for the 2009 Midwinter Meeting is $275 for Section of Labor & Employment Law members and $375 for non-members. The registration fees include meeting materials, continental breakfasts and breaks during the meeting, the Wednesday welcome reception/buffet dinner and the Thursday reception and dinner. The spouse/partner/guest registration fee includes the Wednesday and Thursday evening events as well as the Thursday spouse/partner/guest breakfast.
You are encouraged to register online. You also may register for the meeting by completing the registration form and returning it with your check by February 4, 2009 to: Lynette Kelley, Meetings Registrar, American Bar Association Section of Labor & Employment Law, 321 N. Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610. Refunds for cancellations, less a $50 administrative fee, will be processed provided written notification is received in the Section office by February 6. No cancellations will be processed after February 6.
Travel to Mexico
The ABA has contracted with American Airlines, Continental Airlines and United Airlines to provide discounted fares.

Ground Transportation
Shuttle Service tickets may be purchased at the airport booth for $16 USD per person, one way. Reservations are not required. Regular taxi service is available at the airport for $65 USD, maximum 4 passengers, one way.
Shuttle service is available from the resort to both downtown Cabo San Lucas ($13 USD per person roundtrip) and San Jose del Cabo ($11 USD per person roundtrip).
Continuing Legal Education Credit
Required sponsor documentation will be forwarded to and credit requested from MCLE states with general requirements for all lawyers. Each state determines the number of hours to be credited for attendance. Uniform Certificates of Attendance will be available at the meeting.
