Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee

Midwinter Meeting
St. Regis Monarch Beach
Dana Point, California
April 1-5, 2008

On behalf of the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law’s Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee, we invite you to join us for our 2008 Midwinter Meeting in beautiful Dana Point, California, April 1 through April 5.

Our ERR Committee meetings are known for their innovative and comprehensive CLE-accredited programs, featuring the expert perspectives of all sectors of the labor and employment bar: management, individual employee, union, government and in-house counsel. We also pride ourselves on our friendly culture, the warm welcome we give newcomers, and many opportunities we offer for networking, socializing and recreation.

Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned veteran, you will learn and profit from our Midwinter Meeting. This year, we will again offer an optional full day program in Employment Litigation Skills Training, in which you’ll learn how to effectively represent your plaintiff or management clients in court. (This program, which takes place on April 1, requires a separate registration.) Over the next four days, we will present over twenty programs covering virtually every aspect of the developing relationships and conflicts between employers and employees: from the competing rights of religion, privacy and free speech in the workplace, to the fallout from outsourcing and leased employees, to evidentiary issues arising from electronically stored information, to hot topics in employment arbitration, to how lawyers can be most effective in examining witnesses before a jury. You’ll also learn how to represent your client when a non-competition agreement lands in court, what every employment lawyer should know about ERISA, how to use or defend against expert witnesses on unconscious bias in employment discrimination cases, and how to deal with “equal opportunity” abusers and bullying in the workplace—and many other cutting-edge issues.

The Midwinter Meeting also offers a special half-day program for in-house counsel, introductory programs in employment rights and responsibilities and non-compete agreements, and many opportunities to learn from judges, government officials, and your colleagues.

Meeting Registration

The Midwinter Meeting registration fee is $495 for Section of Labor & Employment Law members and $575 for non-Section members. A discounted registration fee of $450 is available for “Early Bird” registration (prior to January 4, 2008). First- Time Attendees, Law Students, Government Agency and Non-Profit Employees may register for $325.
