Section Benefits

The Section of Labor and Employment Law strives to provide resources useful to law students interested in learning more about the dynamic field of the labor-management practice area. From the orientational Law School Outreach Program sessions to special student pricing at the wide variety of substantive programming, the Section is constantly working to help guide students and assist in their development.

The Section's 23,000+ members represent all perspectives of labor and employment law: employer, union, employee, public, and neutral. All are committed to a balanced discussion of employment issues.

ABA Annual dues are $25 for Law Students and Section membership is FREE.

The benefits of membership include committee participation, publications, CLE, government contacts, networking and more.

Committee Spotlight

Committee on The Development of the Law under the National Labor Relations Act
The committee is one of the oldest and largest committees in the Section. It informs its membership of the developing case law under the Act and seeks the orderly and equitable development of that law. The committee is responsible for the publication of The Developing Labor Law: the Board, the Courts and the National Labor Relations Act , a comprehensive treatise for labor law practitioners, and the annual supplements thereto.

Law Student Outreach Program

Take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about career paths in Labor and Employment Law from seasoned attorneys by attending one of the local sessions of the Law School Outreach Program. Members of the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law will visit ABA accredited law schools across the country to discuss the various career opportunities and special dimensions of this legal specialty.

In an effort to increase awareness and familiarity of career paths in Labor and Employment Law among law students, the Section is sponsoring the Law School Outreach Program at all accredited law school campuses across the United States. During these sessions, practicing attorneys provide insight into this dynamic area of the legal profession, affording students at all levels the unique opportunity to get a comprehensive view of the issues and details relating to this occupation.

Providing a balanced forum, panels of practitioners comprised of an employer lawyer, a union lawyer, a plaintiff's lawyer, and a neutral participant will share real-life experiences and information during one-hour lunchtime programs. This format allows students to look at labor and employment law from different vantages to determine where their interests lie.
