LEL Information Fund for the

New Orleans and Louisiana Public Libraries

CONTRIBUTION FORM: PDF Format / Word Format

January 20, 2006

Dear Section Member:

The Section of Labor & Employment Law has established the Post Hurricane Katrina-Rita Information Project for the New Orleans and Louisiana Public Library Systems. The Section’s objective is to raise $100,000 to provide books, periodicals, computers and other information sources for the New Orleans and Louisiana Public Libraries for people to have access to local, state, & federal agencies; health systems & providers; housing, education and training programs; civil rights information; programs for the elderly and disabled and disadvantaged youth; environmental information; and other law related topics. If you or your Law Firm have not yet contributed to this Project, we request that you consider this very important initiative of our Section.

The Section’s Katrina Task Force, and particularly its lawyers based in the New Orleans area, met with representatives of the New Orleans Public Library Foundation and the Library Administration. As a result of these meetings and Task Force recommendations, the Section is proceeding with two projects. First, $25,000 will be contributed to the New Orleans Children's Resource Center which operates out of a historic Carnegie Library located in an area of the City that is functioning and serves children of modest means. Our $25,000 gift will be primarily directed to replenishing books, periodicals, computers, software, and other educational equipment and materials at this Resource Center.

The second project is to assist in funding the Business and Science Section Support Centers at the New Orleans’ Libraries. The Support Centers are located where information is available for people to determine their rights to benefits and/or file claims concerning health care, training, jobs and career opportunities, and other programs administered by local, state, and federal agencies.

If you have any questions about these projects or the Fund, please contact the LEL web site, the LEL Office in Chicago, or either of us. A form for your contributions is enclosed. Thank you for your support of this very important activity of our Section.

Sincerely,

Charles A. Werner, Chair

Patricia Costello Slovak, Chair-Elect
