Charles A. Powell III Scholarship Fund
The Section of Labor and Employment Law has established a scholarship fund in memory of Charles A. “Butch” Powell III. The fund will be administered through the Section’s Fund for Justice and Education Program Support Fund. Contributions can be made in Butch’s memory to: “ABA Fund for Justice and Education”. Contributions should be designated for deposit in the “Charles A. Powell III Scholarship Fund” and should be sent to Judy Stofko, American Bar Association, Section of Labor and Employment Law, 321 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60610-4714.
Butch was an advocate of democracy, diversity and expansion of the Section, frequently reminding us that we needed to expand membership of the Section to include all who practice in the field of labor and employment law. He was a strong supporter of participation in Section activities by women and minorities. We believe that a fitting way to honor Butch’s memory is to provide funds to support such participation by those Section members who would not otherwise be able to participate. The funds will be dispensed for the following types of requests: registration fees for CLE events and committee meetings, travel and lodging expenses for attendance at midwinter or other committee and Section meetings, ABA and/or Section dues and the like. Once the Fund has received sufficient contributions, application forms for scholarship grants will be made available on the Section’s website and will be distributed at Section meetings and events.
