Attacking Bias in the Justice System:
A Compendium of Program Alternatives

IX. COURT FUNCTIONS AND
SERVICES

Include minorities in various decision-making bodies and ensure that no barriers exist for minorities to use the services of the judiciary.

ACTION STEPS

IX(a)

In all decisions about the use of technology within the courts, there must be a discussion of equal resources and an understanding that technology currently only affects a portion of the people the courts serve.

IX(b)

Every court should have a public information officer to talk about the issues relating to court function and services.

IX(c)

There should be a formal mechanism for gaining public input in the development of court budgets, especially in terms of technology issues.

IX(d) Court advisory committees should include members of the public, with a good model being the California countywide strategic planning teams sponsored by the Administrative Office of the Courts.
