Attacking Bias in the Justice System:
A Compendium of Program Alternatives

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I offer my sincere thanks to those people who participated in this project to develop a working list of programs, projects and recommendations to address racial and ethnic bias in the justice system. Due to publishing deadlines for our upcoming Roadmap "Bias in the Justice System" we operated under a tremendous time constraint and I am gratified by the overwhelming response of our participants.

To our partners in this effort, the ABA Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice, chaired by Kurt Schmoke, and the ABA Commission on Opportunities for Minorities in the Profession, chaired by Charisse Lillie, thank you. The assistance of the National Consortium of Task Forces and Commissions on Racial and Ethnic Bias in the Courts, moderated by Hon. Veronica McBeth, was a tremendous help in moving this forward.

I extend my deep appreciation to those who shared their expertise and knowledge for this important project: Myles V. Lynk, moderator; Lillian Apodaca; Lawrence Baca; Teveia Barnes; Kay Hodge; Dr. Yolande Marlow and Hon. Veronica McBeth. I would also thank the ABA staff whose efforts made this project possible, Robert Evans, Rachel Patrick, Sandra Yamate, Cie Armstead and the staff of the Office of Justice Initiatives, Jack Sweeney, Janet Jackson and Mary Ann Peter.
