At the ABA's 2000 Annual Meeting in New York City, the ABA
House of Delegates adopted the Standards on State Judicial
Selection. These standards were developed over the past
year by a nine member commission appointed by the Standing
Committee on Judicial Independence. These standards address
two main issues: what qualities do we want in a judge; and
what is the best way to ensure these qualities are found in
those appointed or elected to the bench.
The Standards on State Judicial Selection have been published and are available upon request. You can download the Standards by clicking below; or call the ABA Service Center at 800-285-2221. (Please reference product code #3970003.)
