National Database on Judicial Diversity in State Courts

Beginning in May 2004, the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence commissioned a research project intended to result in a single comprehensive database on judicial diversity in state appellate, trial, and limited jurisdiction courts. Realizing that no such knowledge base had previously existed on a state level, the committee enlisted the aid of Professor Barbara L. Graham of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Professor Graham and her research team were charged with gathering detailed information on state judicial diversity, particularly as it relates to race/ethnicity, gender, methods of selection variables, and state population variables.
