NCFTJ Chair Welcome
Welcome to the National Conference of Federal Trial Judges (“NCFTJ”), which strives to serve and represent the interests of the more than 1900 federal trial judges nationwide.
If you are a federal district court judge, magistrate judge, or bankruptcy judge, or a judge on the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, or the U.S. Tax Court – please join us.
Join us to help leverage the voices of the 400,000-plus members of the ABA, to ensure that Congress and the Executive Branch understand the concerns of the federal trial bench.
On critical issues including judicial compensation, establishing new judgeships and filling existing vacancies, ensuring adequate funding for the courts, and preserving judicial independence, the NCFTJ works closely with the ABA Governmental Affairs Office and the Administrative Office’s Governmental Affairs staff, often in cooperation with like-minded organizations such as the Federal Judges Association, the Federal Bar Association, and Justice At Stake, as well as the Judicial Conference’s Committee on the Judicial Branch.
Join us if you wish to attend, speak at, or assist in organizing engaging, landmark educational programs for judges and lawyers.
The NCFTJ serves as a source of speakers for other ABA Sections and Divisions, as well as other organizations. In addition, the NCFTJ sponsors its own innovative programming at ABA Midyear and Annual Meetings.
Join us to take advantage of unique opportunities for service to the public, the profession, and the judiciary, both in this country and abroad.
Each year at the ABA Midyear Meeting, for example, NCFTJ members volunteer for the Minority Judicial Clerkship Program. Other NCFTJ members are involved in international rule of law initiatives, hosting judicial delegations from other countries, and traveling abroad to participate in seminars for foreign judges.
Join us if you are interested in serving in the leadership of some other Section, Division, Commission, or Committee of the ABA, or if you are interested in nominating a judicial colleague for a prestigious award.
The NCFTJ assists other ABA entities by identifying and supporting federal trial judges for appointment to key ABA posts. In addition, the NCFTJ seeks to nominate federal trial judges for high-profile awards, and to publicize their receipt of such honors.
In short, if you are interested in supporting an organization devoted exclusively to advancing the interests of all federal trial judges nationwide – please join us.
Thank you very much for the invaluable service that you render to the country every day. I am honored to serve as Chair of the NCFTJ for 2009-2010, and look forward to working with you.
Honorable Delissa A.Ridgway, Chair
