ROBERT B. YEGGE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION IN THE FIELD OF JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION

Background

The Robert B. Yegge Award for Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Judicial Administration honors Dean Emeritus Robert B. Yegge of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law as an outstanding member and leader of the Lawyers Conference. Dean Yegge served as Chair of the Conference (1987-1988), and was editor of the Lawyers Conference Newsletter for many years. His tireless work in the Lawyers Conference made him a guiding force in the Conference over the years. Thanks in large part to the work of Dean Yegge, the Lawyers Conference mission as the voice of the professional attorney in the administration of justice took shape and made significant progress.

Dean Yegge not only distinguished himself through a number of individual achievements in the area of judicial administration, he distinguished himself through a lifetime of achievement. He was prolific in his activity in the legal, scholarly and civic arenas. As Dean of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law from 1965 to 1977, Dean Yegge introduced courses on law and the social/behavioral sciences. His efforts to actively recruit Hispanics as law school students led to a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association. His concern in the early 1970’s that legal education was all-male led to his vigorous recruitment of female law students at the University of Denver and became the rule at law schools across the country. His truly impressive list of awards spanned four decades. He also was a mentor to many in the field of judicial administration.
