Executive Committee Profile: Bridget Gavahan
by Wendy Jones, New Mexico Court of Appeals

Bridget Gavahan is a native New Mexican who received her law degree from the University of Puget Sound. She is a senior staff attorney at the New Mexico Court of Appeals, where she has worked for seventeen years. She has been going to CASA seminars for all of those years, beginning with one in Charleston, S.C., one week after she was hired. Bridget is an ardent CASA supporter and has served on the Membership, Scholarship, Publications, and Long-Range Planning Committees. She has also served as the Managing Editor of CASA Quarterly.

Bridget values the forum that CASA provides for appellate staff attorneys, which enables them to meet and talk about issues that are both important and unique to them. She points out that no other conference provides such a forum. Consequently, she believes the greatest challenge for CASA is to ensure that, as the organization evolves, the Education Committee continues its important work of providing such a forum.

All those who know Bridget admire her energy and skill. One of the judges on the New Mexico Court of Appeals once remarked that Bridget is mythical for her ability to process cases. Those who work with her always value her insight and her ability to take time to discuss cases and share her knowledge and experience. She is also a true baseball aficionado. A purist, whose love of the game transcends mere team loyalty, Bridget tries to take in a baseball game whenever she travels and is able to count on her fingers the parks she has not visited.
