CAL Call for Nominations

Six members of the Executive Board, with two-year terms, and the Secretary and Chair Elect will be nominated and elected. The election will take place at the CAL Annual Meeting. The CAL Annual Meeting will occur concurrently with the ABA Annual Meeting in New York on Saturday, August 9, 2008, immediately after the CAL Program.

Pursuant to the Bylaws, the Nominating Committee will consist of the Immediate Past Chair (Jim Layton), the Chair-Elect (Ben Cooper), and three members of the Council (who may not be current Board Members or Officers). The CAL Chair (Sharon Freytag) will appoint these additional Nominating Committee members shortly. Under the By-Laws, Jim Layton serves as the Chair of the Nominating Committee.

Nominations should be submitted no later than May 27, 2007. If you are interested in serving as an Executive Board Member or Officer of CAL, please email Amanda Raible a self-nomination at raiblea@staff.abanet.org or send by fax to the attention of Amanda Raible at 312-988-5709. Your email should provide a profile or a link to a website bio and briefly describe your prior involvement with CAL. It may also contain any other information that you think may be helpful to the Committee, such as involvement in other appellate organizations, the nature of your appellate practice, or your reasons for being interested in CAL. An email of a couple of paragraphs will usually suffice. If you would like to nominate another CAL member for a position, you may do so following the same procedure.

Pursuant to the Bylaws, the Nominating Committee recognizes the growing diversity in American society and the need to reflect this reality in its leadership, policies and programs. Through increased diversity, the Council can more effectively address societal and member needs with the varied perspectives, experiences, knowledge, information and understanding inherent in a diverse membership. To that end, we invite all interested CAL members, and encourage minorities, females and those with disabilities, to apply for one of the open positions.

If you have any questions about the nominating process, please feel free to contact Amanda Raible at (312) 988-5450 or raiblea@staff.abanet.org .
