Appellate Judges Conference

Honorable Frank Sullivan, JrWelcome to the ABA Judicial Division’s Appellate Judges Conference (AJC), which strives to provide high quality educational and professional development opportunities to appellate judges, appellate lawyers, and appellate court staff attorneys.

If you are a judge of a federal circuit or military court of appeals, a state court of last resort, or a state intermediate appellate court – or you are a lawyer who practices in appellate courts or are an appellate court staff attorney – join us.

Join us for our annual Summit for Appellate Judges, Lawyers, and Staff Attorneys, a four-day educational extravaganza organized by AJC judges and lawyers.

Our Summits feature extremely talented professors, judges, and practitioners who present highly relevant subject matter in a most interesting and entertaining manner.  Hundreds of judges and lawyers who preside over, practice before, and work in federal and state appellate courts from throughout the country attend our Summits, creating a rich environment in which to exchange ideas and explore concepts.  Follow the links on this page for more information about this year’s Summit.

Join us for additional educational offerings and fellowship at the Annual and Mid-year Meetings of the ABA.

Each August and February, AJC members meet during the regular gatherings of the entire ABA for judicial education programs and social activities as well as to attend and participate in many other law-related events.  At the Mid-Year Meeting each February, many AJC members participate in the ABA Judicial Clerkship Program in which judges work with minority law students from throughout the country to encourage them to seek judicial clerkships upon graduation.  Follow the links on this page for more information about next year’s Judicial Clerkship Program.

Join us to pursue numerous opportunities to improve the appellate judiciary, appellate practice, and the AJC itself through work on our many committees and task forces.  It’s a great way to get to know talented colleagues from throughout the country.

To join us, feel free to contact either me or the AJC’s staff liaison Amanda Raible.

Honorable Frank Sullivan, Jr., Chair

Who We Are

The Judicial Division Appellate Judges Conference (AJC) is a nationwide network of over 1,100 state and federal appellate judges, appellate staff attorneys, and appellate lawyers.

Our Mission

The AJC is dedicated to an efficient, independent judiciary. Through dynamic educational programs and leadership, members keep abreast of important issues and speak out through the national voice that the ABA provides. As with all Judicial Division Conferences, the AJC operates independently with its own: membership, bylaws, leadership, committees, publications, programs, newsletter, liaisons to other entities, representative to the Judicial Division Council, representative to the ABA House of Delegates, and liaison from the ABA Board of Governors.

Judicial Clerkship Program

You are cordially invited to participate in the 8th annual Judicial Clerkship Program. The Program is a joint effort of the Judicial Division and the ABA Presidential Advisory Council on Diversity in the Profession (ACD) with the generous support of LexisNexis®. The Program, offered in conjunction with the ABA Midyear Meeting, is held for parts of three days in various sessions and brings together approximately 90 minority law students from around the country together with judges and former law clerks. The group participates in panel discussions, a research and writing exercise, and informal social events. These activities are designed to introduce and reinforce to the students the reasons and values of pursuing a judicial clerkship. Interested?
